It was just a typical day in the life of heating contractor and co-owner of Airco Mechanical Tom Morgan. That is….until a call came in from ElderHelp Executive Director Tom Lucas. This
call would touch his heart and spur him into action.
ElderHelp is a non-profit organization located in Hayden, Idaho Their Program’s purpose is to utilize the unique talents, skills and knowledge of their volunteers to support our mission and to offer support and companionship to homebound seniors experiencing the effects of social isolation and to complement the other local Senior Services in assisting the elderly to remain in their homes in a safe and comfortable environment by “Being a Blessing on Purpose.”
Tom Lucas of ElderHelp had received a call from an elderly disabled woman in Rathdrum ID. Her furnace had quit working and she had been told by another heating contractor that it was going to need to be replaced. They told her it couldn’t be repaired because the heat exchanger was cracked and it was emitting carbon monoxide the cost to replace the furnace was over $2600. She is elderly, disabled, and lives on a fixed income. She did not have the money to replace the furnace and was worried because colder weather was just on the horizon. So after exhausting all other options she was referred to ElderHelp of North Idaho. Mr. Lucas told her he could help her, but he wanted to get a second opinion so he contacted Tom at Airco Mechanical and what a second opinion it was! After completely inspecting the furnace Airco Mechanical did not find any cracks and determined that all she needed was a minor repair that would cost less than $300. ElderHelp gladly paid to have that done.
After discovering all the amazing things that ElderHelp does for the elderly and others in the community Tom with Airco Mechanical has decided that starting October 13th he is going to donate $5.00 from every invoice for service he performs until the end of the year and may even carry this over to the new year to ElderHelp. Along with his monetary contribution he has also committed to helping as a volunteer in any capacity that he can. “These are tough times and our elderly community is feeling the stress. ElderHelp is a great cause and I am happy to help in any way that I can” said Tom about his decision. The many areas that ElderHelp utilizes volunteers are: Installing handrails of various types, repair roof and plumbing leaks, heating and air conditioning issues, building of wheelchair ramps, seasonal yard clean up, Elder Companions, and the list goes on.
